A conspiracy theory refers to a claim that a condition, effect, or series of events is the result of secret planning by two or more individuals or by an organization, rather than a less dramatic cause, such as people acting openly, people acting independently but in concert, or natural causes. The term "conspiracy theory" is generally understood to be derisive or dismissive of such claims. See main article: Conspiracy Theory.
