[edit] Definition

Credophile describes someone who is prone to believing in quackery, superstition, pseudoscience, and dubious paranormal claims. It is almost always a pejorative term and so rarely used otherwise that to use it positively is considered wrong.

[edit] Origins

It was coined by science fiction and fantasy author L. Sprague de Camp from the Latin credere, meaning to believe and from the Greek- and Latin-derived word endings -philus or -philos, meaning beloved, loving, lover.
