[edit] Tightening up the registration process
I don't know. Since mediawiki is designed to run wikimedia projects I doubt it. Why would you want to though?Geni 01:00, 23 November 2005 (GMT)
[edit] What is this wiki ?
Hi, I'm keen on wikis and Skeptics, but I'm not really clear on the aim of this wiki. I considered setting up something like this earlier in the year but couldn't see the point. (Have set up a couple of other wikis) If I can't see the point then there should probably be a page explaining the motivation to others? Why not just push to get more Skeptics on Wikipedia? What's the policy on copying entire pages from Wikipedia and pasting them here? Also some of comments indicate that this site is linked with JREF. Is this site an official JREF project?

- 1. Wikipedia articles are written from a neutral point of view (NPOV) and Skepticwiki articles are written from a naturalistic and empiricist point of view. Thus we don't aim to simply describe something, but also encourage scientific inquiry and methodology in order to establish the reality behind claims. Wikipedia articles are almost entirely descriptive.
But I gather there will still be lots of "descriptive" articles such bio pages? Those pages might just as well be on Wikipedia.
- 3. Skepticwiki is intended to be a common resource between skeptical organizations, so we take great care to get facts correct and sources shown.
But others, paranormalists etc can edit these pages too, if they register.
You'd probably prefer to do it yourself, but this sort of discussion of SkepticWiki mission/motivation would be good for some "introduction to SkepticWiki" page.
Also I am experiencing bugs with SkepticWiki. Who do I report them to? (A few issues around receiving Talk messages and getting email notification)

- You report them to geni. He's the wiki wiz.
- I don't think they're bugs. In order to receive messages from the wiki you must a) have a real e-mail address entered in your profile, and b) you must set your e-mail options (in your "Preferences" section
Heh, no ... that wasn't my description of the bugs. They're definitely bugs, rather blatant "setup" ones. I'll get in touch with geni. - Rainbow Snake 04:51, 9 December 2005 (GMT)
[edit] Suggestion: Personal Sandbox
Would it be possible to create a new tag at the top of each User page, labeled Sandbox (or something like that)?
I'm envisioning a private place where we can all make our own experiments, screwups, planning, and scribbling, without anyone else being able to look over our shoulders, vandalize or steal our work, or otherwise harass us.
It should be a place that is locked to outsiders.
Is it possible?
BTW, why isn't there a "Contents" list that appears on this page? -- fyslee 14:25, 30 December 2005 (GMT)
- Thanks for adding the TOC here, and I've done it on my own user page. It really helps. -- fyslee 16:04, 30 December 2005 (GMT)
